Recall Covers 664,000 GFCI Outlets Sold at a Major Canadian Hardware Chain
Health Canada issued a recall notice covering three white-colored GFCI outlet models, sold with cover plates exclusively at Home Hardware stores across Canada, according to reporting from CTV News. The recalled units were manufactured by Lishui Trimone Electrical Technology and distributed by Unison Ridge, and were sold from 2015 through May 2025.
The defect: terminal screws on the affected outlets may not tighten properly, which can allow heat to build at the connection and create a burn or fire hazard, per the recall notice cited by Electrical Business (ebmag.com). As of the recall date, the distributor had logged 812 reports of screws that were stripped or wouldn't tighten, and one report of a fire that caused property damage, though no injuries had been reported in Canada.
Approximately 664,000 units were sold over the decade the product was on shelves, according to Daily Hive's coverage of the Health Canada notice. Affected outlets can be identified by 'TR' stamped on the front and 'LGL' embossed on the back, alongside an item number printed on the packaging.
Consumers with a matching outlet are advised to stop using it immediately and contact the distributor for uninstallation instructions and a refund, rather than attempting a repair — recalls of this kind exist specifically because of a manufacturing defect, not something fixable at the outlet.
U.S. readers can check for equivalent recalls through the Consumer Product Safety Commission's database; the process for identifying a match is outlined in our GFCI recall-check guide. You can also use the TripTrace tool to log your outlet's age and brand while you check.
